Yoshiki's Without You is back up on my blog. The more I listen to it, the more addictive it gets. haha. I like the way he uses music to portray the emotions rather than letting the emotions portray the music. I guess a suitable analogy would be like someone may appear nonchalant, yet you know that deep inside he/she actually does care. Reminds me of the scene in The Outsiders(yes ri ppl, sec 2 lit book) where Ponyboy busted an end of a bottle to use it to threaten some socs and after they left, proceeded to pick up the glass pieces one by one so that others would not get a flat tire. It's not about pretence and hypocrisy, it's about channeling the potentially irrational and explosive energy of emotions into something that is beautiful and can be appreciated. Yet, this form of beauty is often flawed- for being too beautiful, for distorting the true nature of emotions to cater to the aesthetic preferences of humankind. Often termed the "sinister appeal", this obsession with the "framed perfection" apparently fails right from the start, because it puts down a definition for perfection.

Moving on, me and xl were discussing the m and m featured on stomp incident over msn when he asked if i felt angry at the tarnishing of the good name of our sch. My reply was after coming to rj, the sense of solidarity is lost. With an explosion of cultures and stuff, u just feel tht u can't be responsible for all these ppl who think and act so differently from u. I think that in RJ, the students are not united as a whole, but there are very strong ties among small groups of ppl. For me, I can identify with RJCO, with my class, with the bridge club ppl, with my sec sch friends, but i cannot identify myself with the school. If someone was to come up to me to ask about the blogger/sucide/stomp incident, my natural reaction would not be an angry response in defense of the school, rather it would be a compromised acceptance- that yes, those ppl were from RJ, BUT, I do not know them that well, hence shrugging off any collective responsibility. I guess that sums up the role of RJ for me for the past 2 years- just an institution, a structure in place, nothing more.

okae.. moving on the the papers, just point out some of the controversies here and there and my stand. yes, i agree it's not good to harp on exams, but when u leave an exam realising that you did not knoe something, i think it's important that you go find out the answer and complete the learning process.

Maths Paper 1 and 2- not much problems, for numerical methods, the qn explicitly states that the series converges. So, my stand is tht you are supposed to explain the convergence to alpha rather than why it converges.

Chem Paper 3- BF3 is a lewis acid (electron acceptor), hence it forms co-ordinate bond with (CH3)3N, not some strange ionic bond.

Physics Paper 3- Proving electron is a particle means to prove that it has mass and charge. Strangely, they were kind enough to provide the ans in qn 5, that is using an electric field to show deflection. A magnetic field would be fine also.

I'm not an econs pro, so shall refrain from commenting on econs. Papers this year were quite fair? cept for maybe Physics paper 2, which tested more on general knowledge than on Physics. 2 mores S papers. Time to mug. Til then...
