well well... jen han's [in your face] comment sums it all up. While the entire world bowls over susan boyles (7.9 million views at last count), these 96 musicians from all over the world gathering at carnegie hall in new york were given the cold shoulder by many. To clarify, eroica is the title of the piece written by tan dun (if you don't know who he is, think crouching tiger hidden dragon soundtrack and China olympics music) as the "youtube symphony", drawing inspiration from beethoven and chinese traditional music. The scores were released online, and musicians all round the world were invited to audition by posting a video of their audition on youtube for a place in the YTSO (youtube symphony orchestra), which gathered together on april 15 at carnegie hall to perform. To think that the passion and joy of the 96 involved (some of them even amateurs) could not rival 1 woman in Britain who suceeded despite her looks. I'm not saying Susan Boyles is underserving of the attention and publicity, I'm asking why the 96 musicians accomplishing the same, if not greater feat, were not given the same treatment.
